Pre-purchase Survey Report Aims
We can do reports for both yachts and motor boats. Our reports are designed to give you a professional, independent, contextual, unbiased view regarding condition and to allow you to make the correct choices when deciding or negotiating on the final purchase of your yacht or motorboat.
Typically this is a judgement on whether the work highlighted warrants further negotiation. Hopefully the survey will confirm the boat is indeed what you are looking for and the condition you perceived it to be in. In which case the survey will be essentially a routine prioritized work list. However the survey may highlight an area or areas of concern that necessitates a re-think on the whole deal. Either pulling out or getting a substantial discount on the agreed price. Note if a 'show stopper' is found during inspection I would normally phone you to talk through the finding and implementations - if the decision is to pull out, a discount on the survey fee is usually agreed.
The survey is very comprehensive in its scope and in addition to all the structural elements, it includes general advice on maintenance, service intervals, cosmetic details, equipment areas that need upgrading and general comments/appraisals as to condition of specific areas in comparison to sister ships.

Report's Summaries
Report summaries are generally structured as follows:
Urgent
Work needed now
Work as soon as practicable
Investigate / Future work / Purchase considerations
Not determined at survey and Routine / Non Urgent / Minor / Cosmetic / Best practice
The report gives a summary of the work required and areas that should be given consideration when deciding on the purchase, in terms of required work regarding safety, up coming work, areas that typically affect resale of the boat and of suitability of systems.
During the inspection the buyer is invited to attend the survey at some point (usually from the lift onwards) and ask as many questions as he or she wishes. We will gladly impart as much information as possible with you to help. If you are new to owning a boat you will undoubtedly learn a lot, if you have owned boats before you will generally find out more specific information relevant to the new boat, indeed every boat is different.
After the inspection we can verbally go through the main points and the implications of the findings if you wish but usually it is more beneficial to verbally go through any points of concern after you have read and digested the report.
