As recently reported in the Telegraph on an article about buying a second-hand boat, our survey prices are very transparent. Generally they will take the form of one of the options below, however a survey can be tailored to your exact needs.

Please call Roger on 07902 268812 to discuss your requirements.

Insurance Survey (boat needs to be out of the water)

Charged at £8 per foot length

We will examine the craft to see if it represents a reasonable insurance risk. Our reports are accepted by all marine insurance companies.  If you are commissioning a pre-purchase survey, there is no need for this type of survey to gain insurance.

Pre-Purchase 1 (out of the water only)

Charged at £10 per foot length

This is a survey with the craft out of the water only. This is recommended when the cost of lifting is prohibitive to the buyer or circumstances prevent a launch. The stern glands cannot be tested for water-tightness. Any machinery that needs raw water cooling generally cannot be tested e.g. generators, air conditioning units and engines.

In some circumstances it may be possible to rig up cooling from a hose pipe. The engine(s) however still cannot be tested under load.

Pre-Purchase 2 (both out and in the water)

Charged at £12 per foot length

This includes inspections both in and out of the water (lifts paid for by the buyer). The engine(s) will be trialed on the mooring. This type of survey is generally recommended for yachts as the size of the engine allows us to put the boat under some load.

Pre-Purchase 3 - (In and out of the water plus a sea/river trial)

Charged from £12 per foot length

This is the same as a Pre-Purchase 2 survey with the addition of a sea/river trial. The costs of the trial are to be met by the buyer. In many cases the broker will be able to organise a pilot. If the trial can be scheduled conveniently into the day and is only of approximately 1 hour duration, then only £12 per foot is charged. If the trial is much longer or the surveyor needs to sea trial at another date then it is charged at £14 per foot plus full travel expenses and a £50 return fee.

Valuation

Charged from £8 per foot length

These may be needed for insurance, mortgage or probate reasons. If you are having a pre-purchase survey or an insurance survey, a valuation can be requested at no extra cost.
